REL G1 Gibraltor Subwoofer review by Choice Audio

REL G1 vs

For two channel music listening, you would be hard pressed to find a better subwoofer than the G1. On our website you can see we have a lot of experience selling a variety of brands of subwoofers. In our opinion, there is not a better subwoofer than the REL for integration into a two-channel audio system. The REL Neutrik Speakon connector system to be the best and simplest way to connect your sub to your music system. In our opinion, it is better than using an out-board crossover, bass management system in the preamp, and far superior to the crossover system built into most subwoofers using balanced or unbalanced connections.

Properly set up this sub disappears in the room. The sound stage felt like it had doubled in size. Vocals, strings, brass sounded less harsh and their decay improved dramatically. Even on recordings with no apparent bass information, we saw improvement in imaging and high frequency information sounded fuller and less harsh to the ears. Bass information sounded full and meaty and the room was properly energized.

Without a sub you are missing a lot of important information that is in an original recording. A violin solo recorded in a concert hall has very low frequency information from the concert hall itself. By not having a subwoofer in your two channel system, you are missing out on this crucial spatial information.

If you have tried subs in the past and have not been happy with the results, you need to consider one of the REL subs. When you purchase a REL G series sub from Choice Audio, we will personally set it up for you at no additional charge. Proper professional set up is the key to getting the most out of a sub.
